The Political Parties Council (PPC) has issued a resolute call for political leaders and parties to prioritise peace, stability and ethical practices, as Tanzania prepares for the October 2025 General Elections.
In a post-meeting address, His Excellency Juma Ali Khatib, Chairman of the Political Parties Council, underscored the imperative for political actors to uphold democratic values and national cohesion.
“Political parties bear a sacred duty to safeguard democracy, while respecting shared national values. Our campaigns must unite, not divide,” Khatib stated: “I implore all leaders to act with integrity, adhere to the Constitution, and comply with electoral laws to preserve Tanzania’s peace.”
Khatib condemned the misuse of political platforms to incite constitutional violations, warning that such actions “threaten the fabric of our nation.” He urged parties to prioritize stability, adding, “We will not tolerate behaviors that erode our laws or ethical standards.”
Recognizing strides made to advance women rights the Council lauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration for its transformative strides in advancing women’s rights, including expanded access to economic, educational and leadership opportunities.
“The Sixth Phase Government has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to gender equality,” read the PPC’s official statement, which also celebrated Tanzanian women’s 30th anniversary of participation in the landmark 1995 Beijing Conference on Women’s Rights.
In a push for inclusivity, the PPC urged political parties to adopt tailored programs empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to engage in politics. “Leadership must reflect Tanzania’s diversity”, the Council emphasised.
With campaigns set to intensify, the PPC reiterated the demands for strict compliance with electoral laws, transparency, and ethical conduct. It warned against hate speech, voter intimidation, or any actions jeopardising national unity.
“Tanzania’s peace is non-negotiable”, the Council declared, pledging to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and violence-free election. To achieve this objective, the council will undertake two key initiatives of training party leaders on legal frameworks, conflict resolution, and public awareness to promote voter education and disability inclusion.
As Tanzania entered a critical election year, the PPC’s resolutions highlighted a dual focus: celebrating advancements in gender equality while addressing gaps in political ethics and representation. The Council’s stance underscores its role as a guardian of democratic principles in a nation renowned for stability.
“We are committed to an inclusive process where every Tanzanian’s voice is heard”, Khatib affirmed, signalling the PPC’s readiness...
